India, France finalize nuke deal, inkpacts to boost ties

India and France on Friday announced they had finalized negotiations for a bilateral agreement on cooperation in civilian nuclear energy and signed five pacts in the areas of defence, science and nuclear research to give a “fresh impetus” to their strategic partnership.

French oil giant Total fined in Erika oil spill disaster

A Paris court Wednesday fined France’s largest company, the oil giant Total, 375,000 euros (556,000 dollars) for negligence in the country’s worst-ever ecological disaster, the 1999 sinking of the tanker Erika, French radio reported.

Sarkozy proposes carbon tax for EU
