Gruelling sled dog race kicks off in Alps

The Grand Odyssey international dog-sled race kicked off in the Alpine town of Avoriaz on Sunday. Twenty-one mushers and their dogs will race 1,000 kilometres through the French and Swiss Alps over 10 days. Nearly 300 dogs, grouped in teams from nine countries, are taking part in this year’s race, considered on a par with Alaska’s Iditarod sled dog race and a major test of technique and endurance.
